An Analysis of Packaging Design of Consumer Goods in Aging Society

Abstract: Population aging is a prominent problem faced by many countries in the world today. China has stepped into an ageing demographic society, but consumer packaging design and research work for the elderly is rather lagging behind. We should design and develop packaging products suitable for the elderly from the physiological characteristics of the elderly and consumer product packaging.

On February 23, 2006, the Office of the National Committee on Aging Work published for the first time the “research report on the development of the aging population in China”. According to the report, since China entered an aging society in 1999, it has become the country with the highest number of elderly people in the world. At present, there are already 21 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in the country becoming old-age population areas. The report speculates that by 2050, China's aging population will reach 300"/0. According to the latest statistical data from abroad, the proportion of elderly people in Europe and America has reached 20%, and individual countries have reached 30%. Population aging as a problem Increasingly, it has attracted worldwide attention. At the same time, the aging industry has also become a focus of attention in all aspects of society.According to the data provided by the National Committee on Aging, the annual demand for the elderly population in China is 6,130 billion yuan, which will reach 2010 years. 1 trillion yuan, but at present China's products provided for the elderly are less than 100 billion yuan each year, and there is a huge gap between supply and demand, which also shows that there are huge opportunities in the elderly market. Care for the elderly, improve the quality of life, achieve a healthy aging, Providing a safe and comfortable daily consumption environment for the elderly has become an important symbol for measuring social progress and the level of technological development.

With the increase in the level of life and fighting skills, the role of packaging in the sales and consumption of goods is even more important. Designing, researching and developing packaging products that are suitable for the elderly people's consumption is an important issue in the current development of the packaging and decorating industry.

With the development of the times, the functions assigned to packaging have been continuously increasing. The functions of packaging are generally grouped into four categories: (1) Protection functions. It is to prevent the goods from being harmed and affected by the outside in circulation. (2) Convenience function. Specifically, it includes the convenience for manufacturers and producers, the convenience in the transportation of goods, the convenience of sales by sellers of goods, and the ease of use by consumers. (3) Business function. It means the promotion of packaging. (4) psychological function. Through the study of consumer psychology, packaging to cater to consumer old consumers as a special category of consumer groups, tailored consumer product packaging, should be considered both rational and psychological considerations.

The physiological characteristics of humans are mainly aging or aging. It is manifested as low immune function and presents various physiological dysfunctions. Appearance aging, the body of water reduction, and more fat, due to intervertebral disc atrophy and increased vertebral curvature, lower limb flexion, osteoporosis and other reasons, the elderly decreased. Vision and hearing loss: drooping eyelids, "presbyopia" occurs around the age of 50, and the hearing loss gradually decreases with age. The hearing loss of high-pitched hearing is lower than that of low-grade hearing. . Not only do the 5 types of functions (visual, auditory, odor, smell, touch) decline, but the ability to experience life, such as memory and comprehension, is also declining. The deterioration of the photosensitivity and color perception of humans began as early as the late 20s and became apparent around the age of 4o. Due to the hardening of the eyeball lens, many 4o-year-olds lose focus and require bifocals, typically 40em (reading) at a short distance and 7m (driving) at a long distance. When the focal length is fixed, it is difficult to recognise the product description words on the 80cm shelf. The government regulations require that the textual description of Packing E must be exhaustive, which inevitably results in a smaller printed text. If these packages are placed at 4o, young people will see a clear image, and older people will see it out of bifocal spectacles. The cornea or crystals of the elderly's eyes often produce turbidity, and the structure and sensibility of the retina. As a result, the diameter of the pupil of the pupil is reduced, and the response to light entering the retina is weakened, which affects the brightness required for reading. In general, after a 45-year-old person, every 13 years requires an increase in light intensity. It is estimated that the 8o-year-old people need 3 times more light to read than 2o-year-olds.

Elderly Consumer Psychoanalysis

The traditional theory holds that the old habitual consumption is not only the continuation of the inertia of decades, but also a reflection of the new life style that is less understood and difficult to accept. When people come to old age, their behavior is often: nostalgic and follow the old J is greater than the study and acceptance of new things. The traditional consumer behavior of the elderly is characterized by: (1) strong heart and astringent inertia. In the long-term consumer life, the elderly have formed more stable attitudes and habitual behaviors, which are mainly reflected in the ways of purchase, use, and product cognition (or brand cognition) in daily life. They are often fond of traditional products. (2) High price sensitivity. The common demand of elderly consumers for goods is good and cheap. (3) Pay attention to reality. Elderly consumers have a high degree of psychological stability, focus on the reality, and are less illusionary. The motivation for purchasing is based on convenience and practicality. In the purchase process, businesses are required to provide a convenient, good shopping environment and services.

Convenience in consumption is the natural tendency of the changes in the physiological changes of the elderly that lead to changes in consumer life; convenience consumption is the inevitable result of physiological changes, and it generally represents the requirements for both purchase and consumption. In use, most of the elderly people feel inconvenient and disgusted when they use the products or use them after reading the instructions, especially for some household appliances, such as various switches and buttons.

Modern packaging design is far from being aimed at simply packaging content items. It requires that it not only protects and preserves goods, but also has the convenience of transportation and portability, the economical and scientific use of packaging materials, and it also serves as a promotion. Heavy responsibility, but can not produce a large amount of packaging waste to destroy the environment. Based on the functional requirements of packaging, when designing consumer packaging for the elderly, the physiological characteristics and psychological appeals of the elderly should be comprehensively considered, and the functional configuration of packaging design should be appropriately adjusted. L3 Take color as an example: If gray, green, and blue are used as the main colors of color hues for color matching, then it is almost impossible for the elderly to extract the above text information. If you use the high-contrast graphic configuration of the pair, it is more suitable for the elderly to read, and it was relatively small yesterday, but it can also be read clearly. In addition, through the processing of graphics and packages, the opening instructions of the packages are more clearly understood, which facilitates the understanding of the elderly, makes it easier to open the packages, avoids printing graphics on glossy surfaces, does not use fluorescent colors, and uses strong colors. Contrast color emphasizes; pay attention to the design of the packaging container, make it more convenient to identify and use; package text to avoid grass; equipped with larger fonts, etc., these should be considered in the design as a whole.

While satisfying the physiological needs of the elderly, it is also necessary to reflect the spiritual pursuits and psychological needs of the elderly as much as possible, and to use the patterns, colors, and texts that meet the requirements of f-electricity. At the same time, it should reflect simple and dignified, outstanding practicality and tradition, and try to meet the realistic psychology and customary consumption psychology of the elderly. For example: use soft touch materials to make packages and containers; use bright colors to eliminate eye fatigue; package size, capacity, etc. These design measures can not only solve the difficulties caused by the decline of living ability, but also stimulate and arouse the old people's confidence in society and life, and thus feel a comfortable and healthy life. The packaging design must take into account the unresponsiveness of the elderly, the physiologic characteristics such as poor strength and poor vision, and the preference for checking whether the package is opened. The text of the manual and /J, the manual can be divided into sections or framed to facilitate the reading of the naked eye. The main information should be fully emphasized and supplemented with special logo marks to provide necessary tips for the elderly. Safe, reliable and easy to use are the basic requirements for elderly people for the packaging of foods, medicines, health products, and beauty products. Due to gradual decline in haptics, muscle control gradually weakened, so it is difficult to open the package with a door. In order to facilitate opening, the number of tearing tooth holes can be appropriately increased, the tearing bar can be widened, the amount of carton and carton sealant can be reduced, the opening valve can be enlarged, and a good texture cover and stretched film can be used. At the same time avoid the use of - cut small, thin, thin packaging parts. Boxing hides slippery materials. The bag must be equipped with a ring or strap, and the weight should be suitable for the strength of the elderly. It can be easily lifted with one hand. The packaging should be easy to open and close because it is convenient for content products to be used. Foods, health products or medicines should be provided in a small package with a small amount of time, and be easy to tear. After use, they can be easily resealed to avoid affecting the quality of the product and ensuring food safety and efficacy. Using green packaging materials that are easy to recycle and reuse, the manufactured packaging can be easily disassembled and easily discarded in the old category to avoid environmental pollution.

Conclusion

Developed countries such as Europe, America, and Japan are 20 to 40 years older than China's ageing society. They have accumulated rich experience in opening packaging products used by the elderly and are worthy of our study. The design and development of aged packaging products has a huge market and business opportunities. China has joined wID and a large number of commodities will go abroad. The more important role the packaging plays in sticking off activities is, the more important it is, the greater the development should be. To this end, we must maintain a calm mind and a spirit of proactiveness, and effectively take the physical and psychological needs of the elderly as the basic starting point.
