Over the Father's Day weekend, as Italian Week in Ottawa came to a grand conclusion, the crown prince of Italy, Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia, made an appearance at the 13th Annual Ferrari Festival. It was truly remarkable to have someone from the Italian royal family grace an event that holds such significance not only within the Italian community but throughout the entire city of Ottawa.
Giuseppe Castrucci, the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Laurysen Kitchens, one of the festival's founding sponsors, expressed how incredible it was to host a member of the Italian monarchy at such a prestigious event. "It’s fantastic to have the prince here," he said. "The Ferrari Festival is more than just a gathering; it’s a celebration of heritage and community spirit."
Members of the Ferrari Club of America (FCA) – Ottawa Chapter were treated to exclusive meet-and-greets with the prince, along with a special luncheon for all Ferrari owners, hosted by Italy’s Ambassador Claudio Taffuri. Additionally, there was a gala dinner where both the prince and the ambassador joined in the festivities.
"This year, Ambassador Claudio’s schedule allowed him and his wife Maria to join us for the gala dinner we held in honor of Prince Emanuele Filiberto di Savoia," Giuseppe mentioned. "It was an unforgettable evening filled with laughter and joy."
The Ferrari Festival isn’t just about the cars; it’s also about giving back. Over the last 13 years, this festival has managed to raise $150,000 for Villa Marconi, a long-term healthcare center catering to seniors in the Italian community. Other charities like the Kidney Foundation and Ottawa Stem Cell Research have also benefited from the festival's efforts.
Free to the public, the festival drew over 200,000 spectators across its four-day run. The event featured stationary car displays on Preston Street, the Italian Car Parade, a demo zone, and a Father’s Day Luncheon. One of the ways they raise funds is through Ferrari Dream Rides, where anyone can enjoy a thrilling ride.
Another fundraising highlight is the Saturday night dinner party with live and silent auctions. "It’s a wonderful evening with delicious food, engaging conversations, and fantastic auction items," Giuseppe added.
