Over the half-term break, I stumbled upon an old Easter-themed activity I had created for my kids last year. It was a cute little game featuring fluffy rabbits and tiny carrots. Initially, it was just meant to be a fun play set, but we decided to add a fine motor skills challenge by using small tongs to sort the carrots. It also turned out to be fantastic for developing basic math skills—kids can practice counting the rabbits and matching them with the corresponding carrots.
Attached is a picture of the setup. We kept the rabbits in an egg carton, which turned out to be both practical and educational. Writing numbers on the bottom of each egg cup helped reinforce counting lessons. The girls absolutely loved it, and they would often pair the rabbits with their respective carrots, improving their dexterity while learning at the same time.
The process of making these crafts was surprisingly straightforward. For the rabbits, all we needed were some pom-poms glued together, felt ears, googly eyes, and a pink gem for the nose. As for the carrots, they were a breeze to create—just a short length of orange and green pipe cleaners twisted together. The girls got so into it that we ended up with quite the collection of "vegetables."
Storing the rabbits in the egg carton wasn’t just convenient; it also sparked additional ideas for playful learning. For instance, we incorporated simple addition and subtraction by asking the kids to add or remove rabbits from specific compartments. It’s amazing how something so simple can be so engaging.
One amusing thing we noticed is that the rabbits tend to pop up in the strangest places. They’ve even made their way onto the light table, ending up in cups and other unexpected spots. Despite this minor chaos, the game remains a favorite among the kids.
If you're looking for more Easter-themed activities, here are a few more ideas we’ve tried. There’s the classic Easter egg truffles, which are always a hit during the holidays. We also experimented with Playmobil Easter eggs, which provided hours of imaginative play. And who could forget the Easter gingerbread house? It was a delightful project that combined baking with decorating.
For those who prefer something a little more low-key, we’ve crafted Easter cards and suncatchers. These are perfect for younger kids who enjoy hands-on projects without too much complexity. And if your family enjoys cozy evenings together, watching Easter movies can be a great way to wind down.
I hope these ideas inspire you to get creative this Easter season! Let me know if you try any of these activities—you might find yourself rediscovering a hidden talent for crafting or storytelling.
