2020 has certainly been unlike any other year, but some things remain constant—like our commitment to making a difference. This year, Laurysen is once again proud to partner with the Minto CHEO Dream of a Lifetime Lottery for its fourth consecutive year. Since our first involvement in 2017, when we crafted the dream kitchen, we’ve continued to bring our expertise in custom millwork, cabinetry, and closet solutions to this incredible initiative.
The Dream Home is the highlight of the annual CHEO lottery, a major fundraising event organized by the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Foundation. This foundation works tirelessly to support CHEO and other vital medical research institutions across the region.
“This is our fourth year contributing to the CHEO Dream Home,†shares Corey Laurysen, our Project Manager. “Each year, we’re incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a meaningful project. Supporting this local cause is something we deeply value as a family-oriented company.â€
For the Laurysen team, this isn’t just another charitable endeavor. Many of us have personal connections to CHEO, whether through visits or hearing stories from friends and family. It’s a place we all cherish and respect immensely.
Previous Dream Homes have always stood out for their innovative designs and breathtaking aesthetics. The 2019 home, for instance, was a Net Zero Energy marvel, while the 2018 edition received numerous awards from the Greater Ottawa Home Builders’ Association.
**Introducing the 2020 CHEO Dream Home**
This year’s grand prize is the exquisite "Bohemian," a 4,700-square-foot, four-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom single-family home located in Mahogany Village, Manotick, Ontario. The "Bohemian" combines organic and sophisticated elements to create a truly unique boho-chic aesthetic. The exterior showcases handsome stone facades and an inviting wraparound porch, while the interior is equally captivating, featuring textured tiles, wood-clad beams, and playful wall treatments. Standout features include a fully equipped basement gym, a cathedral-ceilinged third-floor loft, and a charming three-season room complete with a built-in fireplace.
Tanya Collins, one of the co-designers of the Bohemian, remarked, “Everyone loves a beautiful kitchen. It’s where people spend most of their time. The wood beams add a touch of warmth, and the colors are very textural. A lot of thought went into creating these spaces because they’re where people spend the most time.â€
**Laurysen’s Role in the 2020 CHEO Dream Home**
At Laurysen Kitchens, we believe in giving back to the communities that have supported us throughout our 50-year journey. That’s why our team, led by CKD Designer Wael Bakr, dedicated countless hours to bringing this project to life. From the kitchen and ensuite bathrooms to the master bedroom walk-in closet, dining room buffet, mudroom, basement bar, and laundry, every detail reflects our commitment to excellence.
“The kitchen is the heart of the home, so we paid extra attention to its design,†explains Wael Bakr, our lead designer. “Our goal was to create a classic yet modern kitchen that’s both stylish and highly functional. Every inch of this kitchen was meticulously planned to ensure it’s a chef’s dream.â€
This kitchen boasts premium-quality features like pull-out racks for spices, oils, utensils, and linens, ensuring maximum accessibility and efficiency. “Every aspect of this kitchen was thoughtfully crafted to make it the perfect workspace,†adds Wael.
Laurysen Kitchens also designed and produced all the bathroom vanities, resulting in chic, classy spaces that feel like serene retreats. Additionally, we contributed to the stunning mudroom, basement mini-bar, two-tone laundry, and light-filled dining buffet.
“The hard work, dedication, and attention to detail from the entire Laurysen team have made this project a true success,†concludes Wael.
