South Korea Successfully Developed RFID Chips to Reduce Production Costs 9/10

Recently, South Korean scientists claimed that they have used inkjet printing technology and have successfully developed a new cost-effective manufacturing method for producing radio frequency identification technology (RFID) products.

Sho Kyu-jin, a professor of chemical engineering at the Suncheon National University in South Korea, and his development team developed a chip using 100% organic conductive materials. This newly developed chip can be used to manufacture radio frequency identification technology products.

Compared with other identification technologies, radio frequency identification technology is a novel identification technology. It is expected that this technology will replace the bar code, and it will make revolutionary progress in a variety of industries, including information technology, retail and supply systems.

However, the development cost of radio frequency identification technology is expensive, which hampers the popularity and popularity of radio frequency identification technology in various industries. The key issue of radio frequency identification technology is to develop polymer materials in new ways. It is a semiconductor-like non-metal containing material, such as ceramic semiconductors and insulators, which are usually included in conventional radio frequency identification technology products.

Through the inkjet printing manufacturing process, the newly developed technology can produce radio frequency identification technology products. Compared with the previous manufacturing cost, this solution will eventually reduce the cost of producing radio frequency identification technology products to one tenth, or 1 yen to 5 yen (0.004 US$) per identification tag.

Professor Cho Kyu-jin said: "The newly developed radio frequency identification technology will participate in the global level competition after commercialization, and its introduction will completely reduce the cost of producing radio frequency identification technology products."

According to Prof. Cho, his development team plans to commercialize the newly developed radio frequency identification technology in the first half of 2006, and it is expected that the sale of this technology can achieve a record 200 billion yen.
