Change and Distribution of World Containerboard Demand

According to a survey data, at present, the global packaging business is estimated to reach 400 billion US dollars, of which boxboard accounted for 20% of sales of packaging materials.

Compared with other regions, the North American and European packaging markets are relatively mature, and they account for 60% of the world's packaging demand. It is estimated that by 2005 global container board demand will reach 10.93 million tons, while North American and European market demand is about 3.4 million tons and 4.3 million tons respectively. In addition, the fastest growing global demand for carton boxes is in the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America, with an average growth rate of 4%. It is estimated that by 2010, Asian cardboard consumption will reach 40 million tons, making it the world's leading market.

Experts believe that food packaging is the main growth driver for corrugated cartons. In particular, developed countries such as the United States, food, agricultural supplies, beverages, tobacco products, corrugated cardboard boxes estimated to account for 40% of the total amount; as in Europe, the amount is as much as 42%. In economically underdeveloped areas, cartons are mainly used for export food packaging. For example, in Latin America, Ecuador, and Costa Rica, corrugated cartons are the main containers for bananas and other fruit packaging and export transportation.
