PDF practical guide: Enfocus PitStop

CC Wong's career has always been printing. He has been interested in pre-press and desktop publishing for more than 15 years. In 1993, he went to Manchester City University in the United Kingdom to study printing technology. In 1996, he obtained a bachelor of honours. Since then, he has continued to study in work or field training.

In the previous issue, we introduced some Acrobat value-added tools that are popular in the printing and publishing industry. Some of them are functions provided by the prepress system. These tools are added to Acrobat without a system and will not function. For example, Prinergy DotShop, Agfa RipTrap, etc., but Some tools are also independent, such as Agfa Bleed Area, Prinergy Geometry Editor, Enfocus PitStop, etc. This issue will introduce you to the very popular tool PitStop, as the author said in the last issue-it may be the best and most published / prepress Acrobat plug-in module on the planet.

At present, the latest version of PitStop on the market is 6.5, but there is news that version 7 will be launched soon, and will be demonstrated at the IPEX in Birmingham, UK. Many publishing systems that use PDF as the core of their work have OEM Enfocus PitStop technology, such as system suppliers Agfa, Artwork Systems, Creo, Electronics for Imaging (EFI), Fujifilm, Global Graphics, Heidelberg, Xerox and Screen, etc., so these systems The preflight or editing function has many similarities with Enfocus. This issue is an overview of PitStop 6.5, which will be explained in detail one by one for readers in the next issue. Its functions can be divided into the following 4 categories:

1. Preflight (Preflight)? One of PitStop's strengths is preflight, which presets more than twenty different inspection PDF file settings (PDF Profile), including PDF / X specifications (by the US organizations DDAP and CGATS Co-published and now included in ISO). PitStop pre-check allows technicians to easily check the customer's PDF file on the computer (depending on the pre-check specification selected, or may automatically correct errors while checking), PitStop can also print the pre-check report, then another A colleague or supervisor does not have to be online to review the pre-check results, and the printed report can of course be submitted to the client for review. If the blue paper, film or zinc sheet has been pre-checked and confirmed to be correct, it will not only avoid wasting materials and time, but also can inform the customer early and quickly if the document has any difficulties in production or output, which is a quality service Basic conditions.

To start the PitStop pre-check, you can click the menu Window> Show PitStop PDF Profile Panel ..., and then select the required pre-check specifications. The user can also set the pre-check specifications to match the engineering or pre-press system capabilities. After selecting the preflight specification, press Create Report. A report will appear after tens of seconds or minutes. The report will categorize the image, color, font and other issues in an orderly manner, and the questions in the report will be hyperlinked to the original. Related objects of the document.

2. Verification (Certified PDF Workflow)? The second strength of PitStop is PDF verification. Customers and service providers who pass PDF verification can be sure that the PDF file is a qualified version (qualified? Indicates that they have passed the pre-check conditions of the customer) and not The original change. The method is that when the customer starts the verification, the original file is specified and the personal and work information is entered before the PDF file is pre-checked. After the PDF verification by PitStop, the file will contain this PDF verification information. If the file is changed or replaced in the future , PitStop can identify the authenticity of the PDF file based on the verification information. PDF verification is a good working measure. Strengthening the cooperation between buyers and sellers can greatly reduce the occurrence of errors. Now it is gradually becoming a step in the PDF workflow.

3. Editing (Editing PDF)? PitStop's ability to edit PDF files is definitely a brother, users can modify objects or text in PDF files through PitStop editing tools, or through PitStop Inspector window, PitStop Global Change window or PitStop Action List Panel Modify PDF files in Windows, etc. The modification of a single object can be done through the PitStop Inspector window. If the same or similar objects appear many times in the document, then we can change them in one go through the PitStop Global Change window. In the Global Change window, users can change the size, color, position, etc. of objects (including pictures, fonts, and lines), and the change can only take effect on the selected area, a page, or the entire document.

4. Automated Action (Action List)? Repeated corrections or actions can be performed through the PitStop Action List Panel. The scope of the Action List can be the page, a few pages, or the entire file. In addition to the preset Action List, users can also write the Action List by themselves or provided by customers or downloaded from the Internet. Action lists obtained from the outside can be added with new actions through the Import command. Users can protect each action with a password to prevent important settings from being modified by others (but they cannot prevent others from deleting the Action List). Of course, you can join the action. Of course, the user can also publicize any good action. The export command of the PitStop Action List Panel can output the action to a friend or partner.
