First, the structure of hardcover book shell
According to the national industry standard CY/T.6-91 hardcover book shell quality requirements and test methods, the hardcover book shell is divided into two kinds of whole book shell and surface book shell.
The entire book cover is made of a complete cover material (such as full cloth, full paper), as shown in Figure 6-12a. The cover material of the book cover is not a single piece, usually the cover and the back cover are made of a material, and the book waist is made of a material (for example, a cloth waist, a waist cloth, and a four-corner cover). See Figure 6-12b.
The hardcover shell is composed of three parts: a soft backing material 1, 7, 8, an inner layer material 5, and a middle diameter paper 3, 6, as shown in Fig. 6-12.
Commonly used materials include silk, artificial leather, lacquered cloth, plastic paper, various fabrics and paper. The inner layer material, that is, the material that constitutes the front and back seals, uses cardboard. Middle diameter paper with thick paper or cardboard. When the book shell is laid flat, the distance between the front and rear seals is called the middle diameter. The distance between the front and back sealed cardboard and the medium-diameter cardboard is called the middle seam, which is also called the slot and the book slot.
On the front cover and the front side of the middle waist, the name of the book, the name of the author, the name of the publisher, and other decorative patterns are generally printed by hot stamping or printing methods. Middle diameter paper can make the middle waist of the book case strong and elastic, which is convenient for hot stamping. When reading the book, medium diameter paper is the elastic pillar supporting the book block.

Plastic bookcases are not included in the industry standard. Such bookcases are generally produced according to the requirements of the publisher. It is a full-faced book shell that is heated by a high-frequency medium and pressed according to the specifications of the books, as shown in Figure 6-13. Plastic waterproof and wear-resistant, it is often used to read or small books, dictionaries, manuals, reference books and the like binding. In use, the hard cardboard sticking on both sides of the book block is plugged into a cover of a plastic cover to become a book.

The book cover is the outer cover of the books and books. For book borrowing, it plays an external decorative role on the one hand, and on the other hand, it also protects the books for their complete usability. Therefore, the book shell should not only have a beautiful appearance, but also should have durability, making materials cheap and not deformed.
