Plastic film made of sawdust

Prof. Toshihada from Kyushu University in Japan successfully developed a new technology that uses chemical methods to dispose of sawdust and manufacture plastic film, which makes the remainder of wood processing useful.

The main process for making plastic films from sawdust is to impregnate sodium butyrate with 4% sodium hydroxide solution of sodium thiocyanate rubber and sawdust powder, add acrylonitrile, and heat to cause cyanation. Then, after the treated wood chips are pressed and heated, “wood plasticization” can be realized to make a transparent brown transparent film. This plastic film has packaging and other uses.
