Research comparative transcriptomics analysis reveals differentiated cardiovascular disease pathways

In the process of constructing and developing animal models of human diseases, the most fundamental issue is to understand the functional conservation of disease genes in model animals. Animal models are widely used in the research of cardiovascular diseases. However, when using these animal models to conduct experiments, it often happens that the experimental results do not reach the expected goal or are very different.

Comparative transcriptomics analysis of human and animal models reveals differentiated cardiovascular disease pathways

In order to further explore the differences between human cardiovascular disease animal models and humans, under the guidance of Huang Jingfei, a researcher in the Laboratory of Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, PhD students Zhao Yuqi and Sheng Zizhang, etc. The transcriptomes of animal models of disease (mouse, rat, macaque, dog) were comprehensively and carefully compared. The study found that although most genes are strongly negatively selected, some pathways have differentiated between animal models and humans. Moreover, different animal models and humans have different pathways for differentiation. The results of the co-expression network also show that the evolution of gene expression does not occur independently, but co-evolves through the formation of modules.

This research provides powerful data and methodological support for the better development of cardiovascular disease models and the study of the evolution of gene expression.
