Thermal print head heating control

For a 2-inch printhead, there are 384 heating points in the horizontal direction and 576 heating points for 3 inches. Control of the heating point is abstracted into a write to a cache. The print head has a built-in buffer, and 1 bit in the buffer indicates whether a heating point is heated. So before heating, we need to serially write the data of the dot line to be printed to the printer's cache. How to write data is not described here, we assume that the data has been written to the cache. Currently, it is important to know that the data must be written as soon as the motor begins to rotate, usually by writing data at the same time as the first phase of the startup.

After the data is written to the cache, it is not simply a matter of heating by heating a heater. After testing, for a 3-inch printhead, 576 points of simultaneous heating will cause the instantaneous current peak to reach 11A. The instantaneous current that most lithium batteries can withstand is only about 6A. One heating may cause the battery to be protected and lose power. The printhead divides all heating points into several "groups" for control. Therefore, at some point, we can only heat some of these groups. The principle of group heating is to reduce the instantaneous current (reduce the number of heating points at a certain time) while ensuring that each group can be heated substantially uniformly. Due to the limitation of the size and cost of the portable printer, there is generally no constant current device for the power supply of the print head, so uneven grouping may result in different writing depths in the same line. This needs to be determined by extensive testing.
